Droughts and floods force poor people further into poverty.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Rt Revd Rowan Williams, spoke in March 2009 about the Christian responsibility to respect and care for the environment, noting that ecological questions are ‘increasingly... defined as issues of justice… both to those who now have no part in decision-making at the global level yet bear the heaviest burdens as a consequence of the irresponsibility of wealthier nations, and to those who will succeed us on this planet – justice to our children and grandchildren.’

For Christians, climate change is a justice issue. As together we raise the profile of this issue within the Church, the following materials will provide you with information, statements, presentations and prayers to equip and to inspire.

The growth of carbon emissions is affecting the whole planet, but around the world it’s the poorest and most vulnerable people who are suffering most – and who will continue to suffer unless we act now.
In 2006 the Church of England’s national environmental campaign Shrinking the Footprint called on all of us to ‘think globally, act locally’ to address the pressing issue of climate change.
We’ve prepared a range of useful resources for use by diocesan officers and others involved in mobilising the Church’s response to climate change.
The Church of England and Tearfund are working with partner organisations and governments on climate change and disaster prevention and preparedness. Here you will find the policy reports and briefings that have been written as part of this work.
